Our admission requirements ask for a photocopy of your birth certificate and a photocopy of your national identity card, along with your certificates, your transcripts and four passport photographs. Every intake, applicants arrive having paid a good deal more than they needed to for those two documents, usually because nobody could tell them what the official charge was.

So here is what the law sets, before you go to a counter.

Your birth certificate

Registering a birth and getting the original act is free. That is the law, not a concession. What costs money is a copy obtained later at a council counter, and that is two stamps, 2,000 FCFA. If you already hold a copy at home, photocopy it and keep the original. You do not need to buy a fresh one to apply here.

Your national identity card

This one is genuinely muddled, and it helps to know that before you are quoted a price. The 2026 tax code sets the stamp duty on an identity card at 10,000 FCFA in one place and 1,000 FCFA in another, and the figure a police post quotes will usually be neither, because the card is issued through a consortium and other charges attach to it. If you are told a number, it is reasonable to ask which text it comes from.

The medical test is ours, not yours

Worth repeating, because it saves people money every year: the medical fitness test is done by the university. Do not pay a clinic for a medical certificate in order to apply to us. If anyone tells you that you need one for your CUTS file, they are wrong.

If a figure sounds wrong

Ask which law sets it. An official charge always comes from somewhere, and a counter that cannot name the text is usually quoting itself. The published fees for these documents, each one with the instrument that sets it, are collected at exacttarif.com, in English and in French. It is not a government site and neither are we, but it will tell you what the text says, which is enough to have the conversation.

Where to send your documents

Documents that are not submitted online can be brought to any of our campuses: Main Campus at Kumba Town and Ekombe Bonji, Buea Campus at the Executive Hotel, or Limbe Campus at Mbende Mile 1.
